Maps+ represents a strategic shift away from fragmented, phone-dependent navigation toward a fully native, brand-owned digital experience inside GM, Chevrolet, and GMC vehicles.
A native, connected navigation system designed to bring clarity, context, and control to the in-vehicle experience—transforming navigation from a utility into a core product feature.
Challenge:
GM needed to move beyond fragmented, phone-dependent navigation experiences and create a system that felt truly native to the vehicle. The challenge was balancing dense, real-time data with clarity and safety—while designing a scalable experience that could extend across multiple brands.
Approach:
We designed a native-first navigation experience focused on clarity, hierarchy, and minimal cognitive load. By leveraging real-time data, progressive disclosure, and a flexible system architecture, we created a cohesive, driver-centric experience that scales across GM’s vehicle lineup while maintaining brand nuance.
Results:
Maps+ launched as a core feature across GM’s vehicle lineup, establishing a fully native navigation experience within Chevrolet and GMC infotainment systems. By unifying routing, real-time data, and destination discovery into a cohesive interface, the platform reduces reliance on third-party navigation while strengthening GM’s connected ecosystem. The system delivers a more intuitive, driver-first experience—balancing information density with clarity and reinforcing navigation as a core product capability rather than a peripheral tool.
